Foods That Make Your Mood Better
Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and should be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be very nourishing and good for you. There are some foods that actually can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are wonderful for helping you battle depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolks in particular, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–run better. Try eating an egg and be happy!
Put together a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all helpful for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that tells your brain how you feel all the time. The more of it you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.
If you wish to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you fight back depression.
Grains can be wonderful for overcoming a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you have a happier mood. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your glucose levels which in turn kicks up your mood to a happier place.
Green tea is excellent for moods. You were just anticipating to read that, weren’t you? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while at the same time relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew green tea could help you feel so much healthier. Now you are aware that it helps you to raise your moods also!
As you can see, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Test out these suggestions instead!
