Learn How to Elevate Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a sugary food or another junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nutritious and good for us to eat. Some foods honestly do raise your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, you may be surprised to find out, are great at battling depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most crucial part of the egg. Eggs, especially the egg yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mixout of a variety of seeds and nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and so on are all terrific for helping to elevate your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have a lot of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that but nuts, particularly, are a great source of protein.

If you would like to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3s. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s gray matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

It’s easy to overcome your bad mood when you are eating grains. Teff, barley, millet, quinoa, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can truly help to better your mood. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you feel hungry! These grains can improve your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This helps improve your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. And now you are aware that green tea can help raise your mood also!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
