Foods That Make You Happy
In general, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly nourishing and good for us to consume. There are some foods that, when you consume them, can improve your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try several of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you battle depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the yolk. The egg yolk is the part of the egg that is the most important in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolk in particular, are high in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and cheer up!
Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because these foods are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, along with bettering your mood, can be a great source of protein.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you are wanting to battle depression. Tuna, trout, mackerel, herring and wild salmon are all high in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can greatly elevate your mood.
Some grains are truly wonderful for fighting off bad moods. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all good for helping you feel happier. They help you feel full also which can actually help to better your mood. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are not difficult for your stomach to digest. You digest these grains quicker than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.
Green tea is truly good for your mood. You were simply expecting to read that, weren’t you? Green tea is found to be packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps raise your mental sharpness while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not hard to become healthy when you consume green tea. Now you know that it helps you to raise your moods as well!
You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are not good for you just so to feel better! Try a few of these suggestions instead.
