Use Food to Boost Your Mood
A lot of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we have to keep away from them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods can be super nourishing and good for you. A number of foods honestly do raise your mood when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.
Eggs, would you believe, are terrific for helping you battle depression. Just see to it that you don’t toss out the egg yolk. The yolk is the most important part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, the yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and cheer up!
Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because seeds and nuts have plenty of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a great protein source.
Cold water fish are great for eating if you are wanting to combat depression. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can seriously raise your mood.
Some grains are really wonderful for repelling bad moods. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all excellent for helping you feel better. They help you feel full as well which can really help to make your mood better. Feeling famished can truly make you feel awful! The reason these grains are so wonderful for your mood is that they are not hard for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.
Green tea is really good for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a certain amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually stimulates brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body.
