Turn to Food to Elevate Your Mood

In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and must be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. At times, comfort foods can be utterly healthy and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you eat them, can improve your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. You must make sure, however, that what you make includes the egg yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be great for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and feel happier!

Make a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not only that but nuts, in particular, are a great protein food source.

Cold water fish are good if you want to feel happier. Herring, trout, tuna, wild salmon, and mackerel are all high in omega-3 fats and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can basically help you overcome depression.

It’s not hard to overcome your bad mood when you consume grains. Barley, quinoa, millet, teff, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel better. They help you feel full also which can actually help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can be awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew it had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is high in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid actually induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You already knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you are well aware that green tea helps you to elevate your moods too!

Now you know that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these instead!
