Information on How to Boost Your Mood with Food

In general, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and have to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. At times, comfort foods can be perfectly nourishing and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are wonderful at battling depression. Just make sure that you don’t get rid of the egg yolk. The yolk is the part of the egg that matters most in terms of helping elevate your mood. Eggs, especially the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–work better. Try consuming a couple of eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixout of different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which increases serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The higher your serotonin levels, the happier you will feel. Nuts, in addition to raising your mood, can be a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you want to beat back depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are rich in DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.

It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly excellent for helping boost your happiness levels. They help you feel full as well which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling starved can actually make you feel awful! These grains can elevate your mood since it’s easy for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps kick start a rise in your blood glucose which in turn brings up your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is really good for your mood. You knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in a specific amino acid called L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You already knew that green tea helps you become better. Now you are well aware that it helps you to lift your moods too!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you should eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try several of these instead!
