Try Using Food to Improve Your Mood
For the most part, people have been trained to think that “comfort” foods are not good for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is essentially candy or other junk foods, this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to eat. There are some foods that basically can improve your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and are needing an emotional pick-me-up, try a couple of these.
Eggs, you may be astonished to discover, are terrific at battling depression. You must be sure, however, that what you make includes the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you elevate your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that affect how you feel). Try eating a few eggs to cheer up!
Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which increases your production of serotonin. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The more serotonin you have, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific source of protein.
Cold water fish are good if you wish to be in a better mood. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all rich in omega-3s and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that promote the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s true: chomping on a tuna fish sandwich can actually help you fight depression.
Grains can be excellent for overcoming a terrible mood. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. They fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. It’s not hard to feel a little bit off when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your stomach to digest. They are simpler to digest than other foods which helps kick up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, elevates your mood.
Green tea is wonderful for moods. You were simply waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is rich in an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid essentially induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s focus while also loosening up the rest of your body. You likely already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you consume green tea. And now you know it can help raise your mood also!
See, you don’t need to consume all that junk food when you want to feel better! Try some of these hints instead.
