Try Using Food to Boost Your Mood

A lot of us have been conditioned to believe that comfort foods are bad and must be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is very true. Soemtimes, comfort foods can be very nutritious and good for us to eat. There are a number of foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you feel a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a few of these.

Eggs, would you believe, are fantastic for helping you fight depression. Just see to it that you don’t throw away the yolk. Whenever you want to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, particularly the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Consume an egg and jolly up!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all terrific for helping to raise your mood. This is possible since these foods are rich in magnesium which boosts your production of serotonin. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, in particular, are a great source of protein.

If you want to battle depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. These are two substances that boost the quality and function of the gray matter in your brain. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are fantastic at helping you feel happier. These foods fill you up better and that can help improve your moods as well. It’s not difficult to feel low when you are starving! These grains can improve your mood since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. You digest them more quickly than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is really great for your mood. You were just waiting to read that here, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with a certain amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies show that this particular amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time calming your body. You knew that green tea helps you feel healthier. Now you know that green tea can improve your mood as well!

Now you can see that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you wish to help your moods get better. Try some of these hints instead.
