Most of us believe that comfort foods are terrible for us and that we must avoid them. Sometimes, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods may be really nutritious and good for you. Some foods really do boost your mood when you eat them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at dealing with depression. Just see to it that you do not throw away the yolk. The egg yolk is the most crucial part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, particularly the yolks, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can really help you boost your mood. This is because they help in improving the function of your neural transmitters, the parts of your brain that affect your mood. Eat an egg and feel a lot happier!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and so on are all good for improving your mood. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which raises your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” natural substance that directs your brain how you feel at all times. The more serotonin in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of improving your mood, can be a superb protein source.

Cold water fish are excellent if you are wanting to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly raise your mood.

It’s easy to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel happier. These grains fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods also. It’s not difficult to feel a little bit off when you are starving! The reason these grains help your mood so much is that they are not hard for your body to digest. You digest these grains faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Your mood can really be helped by green tea. You knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is loaded with a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this specific amino acid can basically stimulate brain waves. This helps improve your mental sharpness while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become better. Now you know that applies to your mood also!

Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you need to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Try a couple of of these hints instead.
