Foods That Make Your Mood Better

For the most part, people have been taught to believe that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and have to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this is very true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, try a few of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually wonderful at dealing with depression. Just be sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. Whenever you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most vital part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolk particularly, are rich in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be terrific for elevating your mood. This is because the B vitamins improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Eat an egg and jolly up!

Put together a trail mixfrom various seeds and nuts. Your mood can be improved by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etcetera. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin levels. Serotonin is referred to as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The higher your levels of serotonin, the more pleasant you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of bettering your mood, can be a super source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you want to feel happier. Salmon, herring, tuna fish, mackerel, trout, etcetera, they’re all loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you fight your depression.

It’s not hard to drive away your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all actually excellent for helping raise your happiness levels. These foods fill you up better and that can help you with your moods too. It’s not hard to feel depressed when you feel famished! These grains can elevate your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps jumpstart a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is packed full of an amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies show that this specific amino acid can essentially induce brain waves. This helps improve your mental acuity while calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

See, you don’t need to eat all that junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Try a few of these instead!
