Use Food to Boost Your Mood

For the most part, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Often, if your comfort food is made of candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, however, comfort foods can be completely healthy and it’s good for you to eat them. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you eat them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you combat depression. You need to be sure, though, that what you make includes the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping you cheer up. Eggs, specifically the egg yolks, are full of B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for raising your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that affect your mood–run better. Eat some eggs to cheer up!

Build a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Peanuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, almonds, pumpkin seeds, etc are all fantastic for helping to boost your mood. This is possible as these foods are high in magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is called the “feel good” chemical substance and it tells your brain how you should be feeling day in and day out. The more of it in your brain, the more pleasant you’ll feel. Nuts, along with improving your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

Cold water fish are great for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain run a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can really help you overcome depression.

Grains can be great for overcoming a bad mood. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all really great for helping boost your happiness levels. These grains can help you feel full for longer as well, which can help your mood too. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains elevate your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest. You digest them faster than other things which can help boost your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.

Green tea is actually great for your mood. You were simply anticipating to read that in this article, weren’t you? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies prove that this particular amino acid can basically induce brain waves. This helps sharpen your mental energy while simultaneously making the rest of your body more relaxed. You probably already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you consume green tea. And now you are aware that it can help you be happier as well!

As you can see, you don’t need junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try these tips instead!
